Labor & Delivery!

*
A Week Before...
*
I had contractions really Randomly all through out the week. On Sunday Morning they all stoped and I actually thought maybe this baby wont come next week. But sure enough Sunday Evening around 11:30pm they began!
*
*
Monday
*
I started having random contractions in the Early hours of Monday Morning. That day I kept busy as much as possible and getting a lot done around the house. I went out with My friend Leah & Christy for Lunch and we walked around BYU Campus. Whatever was left of my Mucus Plug was coming out all through out the day. By 8pm I was having regular contractions ranging from 15-20 mins apart. I called Alan and gave him the heads up and told him unless they get much closer than I would call him back. Well by 10:45pm they reached 5-8 minutes apart. I called Alan again to let him know. Our doctor said wait for them to be 5 mins apart for about a hour then go to the hospital. So by 11:45pm they were down to 3-5 mins apart!

Alan got off work at Midnight and of course rushed home, except a normal 10-15 min ride home took almost a half hour because he hit every Red Light from work to home. haha. By the time we got to the hospital it was almost 1am! They checked me and I was still only 1 cm but 80% effaced! Which was a 10% increase from that past Thursdays Apt. They watched me for a hour, but much to my discouragement nothing had changed! So they decided to send me home to get some rest even though my contractions were exactly 2 mins apart! She suggested I eat a meal since you can't technically eat anything once your admitted. They gave me a shot of Morphine to help slow down the contractions and make it easier for me to rest. We left from the hospital at 3am we went to Dennys because all I wanted was a Grand Slam! By the time we ordered and the food arrived my meds had kicked in and I couldn't even see straight! I only was able to eat 3-4 bites before wanting to puke. We went home and went straight to bed.
*
At 6 am I woke up to contractions again! Around 8-10 mins apart. I had a Dr Apt that morning at 8:45am. Needless to say by the time we went to the doctor they were down to 7 mins apart. I was dilated to 2 cm and 85% effaced. Since it took 6 hours to dilate a whole cm we decided that we should wait another 6 hours to go to the hospital. And Ironically thats what happened at 3:45pm. So Back to the Hospital We Went! I was dilated at 3cm. They watched me for a hour and I dilated another 1/2 cm. So the doctor decided to have me walk around for a hour to see if I would dilate anymore. Probably one of the most yucky things ever. And was probably the only time I was somewhat mean to Alan. I was frustrated with him because I kept stopping when I had contractions and he told me to keep walking! haha. So I turned to him and said "You need to Shut Up! I am doing the best I can!". Poor Alan, he was only trying to help!
*
When Alan went on a Bathroom Break during "My Walk". He called up one of My Best Friends, Erin to help talk me through the contractions. Unfortunetly she was still living in PA at the time and wasnt able to be there in person.
*
I was finally Admitted At 8pm! I had gone the extra 1/2 cm i needed! My Aunt Monica had arrived at 7pm to help out and be a extra support. Little did I know I still had a long way to go! :( By 8:30pm the Anesthesiologist came in to give me my epidural. They had me sit up and bend over. Alan had to look the other way, but held my hand. I expected to feel it less so needless to say I wasn't to thrilled. Right away the cold rush and tingling went in effect. Although much to my dismay it had more of a effect on my right side than my left at first. And took my left leg almost 40 mins to get with it. Christy arrived sometime around 9pm. I was finally able to sleep for a few hours at this point. Which was wonderful. However when the nurses came in to check to see how much i dilated it somehow woke me up. I remember waking up seeing them moving my legs but not being able to feel my legs and it totally freaked me out. Immediately I went into a extreme Panic Attack. I felt like I couldn't breathe. I hate Panic Attacks!!! And Thanks to my Severe Anxiety Issues it always takes me a while to calm down. I was uncomfortable at that point, and all I wanted was a glass of water and to sit up. But as you know that isn't possible when your in labor. Finally after 20 mins of hyperventilating, Alan got me to calm down. He has always been amazing at that. A 1/2 hour after the anesthesiologist finally came back to give me something to calm down and another full dosage of a epidural since mine had began to wore off. Once that was in my system I fell back asleep.

Wednesday
*
At about 2am they broke my water. I was actually very suprised how I couldn't feel it. Then around 3am my epidural started to ware off again. So back came the Anesthesologist for another full dosage! So if your keeping count thats 3 Epidurals at this point. Now I was getting to be beyond tired and just ready for this baby to come out! I fell back asleep until 5:30am.
*
At a quarter to Six, I could tell that the Epidural was wearing off once again. I could feel my contractions and I wasn't very happy. At 6:30am the anesthesiologist came in again to give me my last dosage of my Epidural before Brenton arrived. Alan had been sleeping all morning, and it took My Aunt Monica and I 10 mins to get Alan up before I began to push. I finally began pushing at 7:30am! I was so afraid Brenton would be posterior but half ways through pushing they could actually see him turn to anterior!!! Believe it or not Pushing was one of the easiest parts of the whole ordeal. I was in a really good mood and cracking jokes with the doctor and nurses in between pushes/contractions.
*
I had a system going! Alan was by my head, on the left side of me, out of the way so he couldnt see anything. Holding My hand... although Im pretty sure he was holding on tighter than I was. My Aunt Monica was on the left side of me helping holding My Left Leg. One of The 2 Nurses was holding My Right Leg. And the Other Nurse was to the Right of My Head feeding me Ice Chips inbetween contractions/pushes. I ended up pushing for about 2 1/2 hours.
*
At 10:08 am I gave birth to Brenton L Thorpe! Hes cry sounded like a old man! He was 7 lbs and 11 Ounces! Brenton was 20 Inches Long! I was so shocked when I saw him because to me he wasn't what I thought he would look like! I thought he would have darker hair and more of my features, instead I thought he looked like a Mini-Alan! haha. I think I even asked the Dr "Are you sure thats mine?!".
*
Alan was soooo cute! Now Alan is one of those guys that doesn't cry ever! But When Brenton was born he was all teared up and couldn't stop smiling! He was so choked up that he could barely speak. I will never forget the look in his eyes when Brenton arrived into this world. Alan at first didn't want to leave my side while I was delivering the rest of the placenta. After telling him to just go after 5 times he finally went to go and look at Brenton. You could tell he was so excited and nervous.
*
After I was done I got to hold My Baby Boy for the first time. It was so hard to believe that he was mine! This sweet little innocent boy was the cutest little thing I had ever seen. I felt so incredibly blessed to be his Mother. And so gratful to Alan for helping me create him.
*
After about 15 mins they took him upstairs to give him his first Bath. Alan went with him to capture every moment on camera for me since I wasn't really able to go see him myself. They moved me downstairs to the Nursery area.

*
Since we took so many photos we will blog about them in seperate entrys!

I'm in Labor!
*
Quick Update, my contractions were 3-5 mins apart when i finally went into the hospital last night. I had started Contractions at 8 pm. They watched me for a hour and i barely effaced or dilated anymore so they sent me home to rest. They gave me some Morphine to help with the extreme pain. When I left they were 2 mins apart. I'm having back labor... fun times. I got a hour of sleep when I got home. The medicine did help calm them down a bit. We went to the Doctor at 8:45am and she checked me and I went from 1 cm at 3am to almost 3 cm. So I'm just waiting for my cervix to do its final thing so i can get admitted to the hospital. My contractions are 4-6 mins apart right now. So I'm just taking it easy around the house. The Doctor says she thinks this will be a Valentines baby! I'm extremely tired and want nothing more more for this to end. I'm actually up to doing my makeup right now believe it or not so that's what I'm off to do. But I'm just waiting for the pain to be insane like it was last night before they gave me the meds. So needless to say I'm going on Hour 16 or so?! Hopefully they will pick up within a few hours so I can just be admitted! Sheesh!

I'm updating right now even though I haven't had my Doctors Apt yet. We go in tom. at 8:45am but I'm not sure how up to posting Ill be. Since my last apt on Thurs I have been having really random contractions and cramping that gets worse by the day. The past few nights I haven't been sleeping at all, leaving me extremely exhausted and tired. I would take a benadryl but I'm in fear that Ill go into labor and then have it in my system. All last night I was bleeding lightly and whatever small amount of my mucus plug was left is now gone. I was pretty worried when i passed a clot the size of a quarter around 5am. I called the hospital just to make sure that it was okay. The Nurse said it sounds like I'm within 24-48 hrs away. Right now my contractions are about 20 mins apart, not extremely painful yet but I am sure my body is just preparing for it. So just a heads up in case I don't write much.

I know I promised photos of the Nursery but I have been feeling so crummy that I have yet to post them. We have a few available to look at on our family website! Feel free to look... we still need to update the website quite a bit!

38 Weeks & 5 Days
*
So we went to the Doctors today. Still 1 cm and as far as effacement only a 10% increase to 70%! Blahhhhhh! And can you believe it, Brenton was anterior and now is posterior! What the heck?! Baby move right back around so you can come out! She did say however I could deliver as early as tonight or be late at this point. We just have no idea. So everyone start praying this baby will be out by the 18th because he needs to be here for the family that are flying in! haha.
*
Yesterday I went to a Breastfeeding class. Very informational, but Ill probably have to buy a new pump when i go back to work because Ill need a electric that is fast and gets the job done in 10-15 mins. We received a Manual one and its actually the best Manual you can use, so it makes me feel comforted that at least we have the best one for now. I'm not sure how long Ill do it for but I'm going to give it a shot. But def. no longer than a year!!!
*
Okay Can I get anymore miserable at this point? Well probably if Brenton comes late. But there is soooo much extra pressure down there that I feel like I'm going to die at any moment! It is so painful to walk at night. I get 2-3 steps in before I'm bent over in half or collapsing. And its only after 11pm to 3am daily, its so weird! I am constantly running to the toilet to go #1 & 2! Which has gotten old really fast! And going up and down the stairs in our home has become the climb of a lifetime.
*
As far as the house being ready?! We are getting there! haha. Alan hasn't had a day yet to help me so Ive been having to do the best I can by myself. Christy is coming on Sunday after Church to help me organize the last of it. All the Laundry in the house is done! Our bedroom is spotless! Brenton's room is finished! And as far as the rest of the house it can be finished within a day its just getting a little help to get it done.
*
Brenton's room is finished!!! Yay! We only have 2 things left to get him. Being his really nice rocking chair & his High Chair. We have 1 rocking chair in there right now but its our 2nd one that's suppose to be on our front porch. We are getting one of my moms rocking chairs but it wont be here for a month or so. And we are putting that one in our bedroom because its really expensive and matches the wood in our bedroom. Then in March we will be getting the main one for the baby's room. We just have a lack of funds right now with company coming into town. And its not that big of a deal because we have something to get us by for the month we need to wait. I will post photos tom morning of the Nursery!!! :)
*
Well our next Doctors Apt is Tuesday morning! And Saturday is our Child Birth Class! So expect a written update Tuesday and Nursery Photos tomorrow!! :)

Doctor Update! Okay so I'm still 1 CM however i went from 25% effaced to 60% effaced in a week. So thank goodness progress is at least being made. I'm convinced I'm going to go into labor on the 13th and have Brenton on the 14th. And Alan's convinced the 12th. Anyone else have any predictions? haha. Our next Apt is next Thursday Morning.
*
So I know I said no more shopping but... haha. I found some really cute PJ's for Brenton so I grabbed 4 more pairs. And since my wool diaper bag has been sold out forever and then some. I got another Diaper Bag instead. Its a black tote and its Ralph Lauren stitched in Silver. Its so cute and def a Tiffany Bag. I love it!
*
I started packing my hospital bag, its over half ways done. We got our new digital camera from Dad! Thanks Dad! And we got extra batteries and a memory card. So the camera is all set! I finally got around to picking up some new tapes for the video camera so that is ready as well! Unfortunately my house is kinda a mess still. But Alan promised to help me finish up everything on Saturday Night.
